A clear structure makes 5CO01 easier to write and easier to mark. The best approach is to organise your answer around the tasks and criteria in your brief, using headings that make it obvious where each point is addressed.

A structure that works

  1. A short introduction that sets scope and introduces your organisation.
  2. A section on structure, strategy and the operating environment, with analysis.
  3. A section on organisational culture and behaviour, applying a model or two.
  4. A section on how people practices affect performance and culture.
  5. A brief conclusion drawing the threads together, plus recommendations if asked.
  6. A complete, consistent Harvard reference list.

Use headings that echo the brief. If a task says 'analyse organisational culture', a heading like 'Analysis of organisational culture' signals exactly where that criterion is met.

Plan your word count

Allocate a word budget to each section before you write, in proportion to the marks or criteria it carries. This stops you over-writing early sections and running short on the analysis that matters most.

Move from theory to application in every section

Within each section, introduce the concept, then apply it to your organisation, then analyse what it means. That rhythm keeps your answer analytical rather than descriptive throughout.
